I was really looking forward to Dani's book. After meeting her and Dave in book 1, I really wanted to understand what his purpose was and to be honest, that part was not really clear unless it was to "protect" her no matter what. Either way, I loved how they stayed pretty true to character. He wasn't a very vocal person, unless he was giving her orders and she was still that tough, kick ass female who didn't fight him over the little things...to her detriment. ;)Dani goes through a bad phase when she learns who her mother is, but that doesn't stop her from doing what is necessary nor does it change her friends and family's opinion of her. My mind keeps thinking through all of the mysteries like who is the woman in the mask, Lukas and the Shadow Enemy (looks like he wants to end the conflict), and what exactly is the prophecy (is one person going to break it, what will be the cost, etc.). We get close, but still no closure. There is definitely a lot of history in these books and keeping up with the original sisters, their descendants, their gifts, and the mystery of the tablet and Santuary can be a bit overwhelming. I had to pause a few times to try to recall what I learned in the first book. However, this is still a great series. Sometimes dry, sometimes snarky depending on the character.

Light's Bane started out just the way I'd hoped...Yes with Dani and Dave, what can I say other than Wow!!
With the first book The Prophecy #1 (The Daughters of the People Series) the reader was learning the characters, In this book with already knowing the characters the story just took off.. A fast paced and exciting read.. the characters built as the story progressed which is what a good series needs. I really enjoyed the authors attention to details throughout this book right down to the little things, I also loved that there were some wonderfully placed mentions of one of my favourite movies.. ("Farm Boy") if you know the movie you will get the references!!
This book contained some wonderfully written intimate scenes that I felt enhanced the character building which in turn made a really enjoyable read...
I would recommend reading, The Prophecy #1 in The Daughters of the People series. this is a great introduction to a great series...
Looking forward to the next book of The Daughters of the People series.. The Enemy Within..
Daniella is awesome. She’s a certified sparkplug who is tough as nails and isn’t about to let a guy (even a really awesome one) interfere with duty. Her overall story and dynamic with Dave is definitely my favorite of the first three books. Varna is extremely good at ensuring each main character has unique characteristics rather than “generic female lead” with different guys. Many authors fall into that trend so the readers supposedly relate more to the female lead. Forget that! Dani is relatable and also has aspects that have me wanting to be a little more kickass. Perhaps it’s time to sign up for martial arts?
Awesome characters aside, this is the book I felt I learned the most about the People and the mythology around it. Just enough was revealed to understand what was going on, but also just enough questions to have me wondering what will happen next. I’ll be very curious to see what happens when we see the Oracle next!

Dani's story was wonderful. I thoroughly enjoyed reading her story and was surprised when I learned about Dani's biological family and what was required for her to do. I loved this story and can't wait for the next book in the series. I voluntarily reviewed this copy of the book. Thank you.
I read this book in the Daughters Omnibus, books 1-3. I had fallen in love with Dani in Book One, The Prophecy, where she played the role of the fun-loving, young Daughter who set out to locate stolen artifacts and ended up captured by the head of the Shadow Enemy. Dave Winstead, an undercover FBI agent, is second in command to Lukas Alexiou, enemy of the Daughters, but seems to take on a protective role with Dani, allowing her to escape, then claiming her as his. Dani needs Dave to help her find the missing artifacts, but both are keeping secrets, a common occurrence among the People. Unfortunately in this case, those secrets could lead to Dani's death. This is a great addition to the Daughters of the People, one I highly recommend.
Very good read, The series is coming along nicely and the characters are well developed and interesting. Very believable. I look forward to the next book in this series. Very original concept.

The series gets more exciting, interesting, with a lot of action as you read each book. As usual the characters are complex, well developed with strong personality and plenty of emotions. Truly enjoyable book and so ready for the next book.
